After a visit by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper to Tokyo where he met with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, it has been announced that Canada and Japan will formally begin talks into establishing a free trade agreement between the two nations. Japan is a big importer of Canada's natural resources, and Canada primarly imports Japanese cars and other industrial products. Experts have cautioned that it may be difficult to reach a deal since Japan is protective of its agricultural sector against foreign competition.
