The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) was formed in July 2010 by Elizabeth Warren as a federal agency responsible for consumer financial protection regarding mortgages, credit cards, or other non-bank financial products and services.

Since its establishment, Elizabeth Warren and Raj Date have acted as Special Advisors for the CFPB. On January 4, 2011, Richard Condray was named by President Obama as the Director of the CFPB.
