Originally a simple, flat, structural lintel spanning an opening in a wall, it is the lowest part of the classical entablature. Subsequently a term used to describe any moulded door or window frame.
Parting strip

A wood or metal strip fastened to the inside perimeter of a window frame used to separate adjacent sliding sash.
Archivolt

A group of mouldings (or other elements) surrounding an arched opening, corresponding to the architrave in the case of a rectangular opening.

The retaining wall surrounding a basement window which is below ground level.
Pediment

A low triangular gable above a cornice, topped by raking cornices and ornamented.. Used over doors, windows or porches. A classical style.
