Fault is noun and whole phrase is 'committ fault' thus error, mistake but in the 'moral field'; also means guilt, civil, social and moral, legal responsibility. We thus say 'it's your own fault', etc, also meaning, negligence, ignorance or we use phrase 'to find fault with someone' thus complain for someone, and his/her acts on anything possible in this case, that fault may involve. We also have phrase, 'faulty decision' meaning, 'wrong decision' etc.
