Okapi

The okapi, is a giraffid artiodactyl mammal, realted to the giraffe and native to the Ituri Rainforest (Democratic Republic of the Congo, Africa). Okapis have reddish dark backs, with striking horizontal white stripes on the front and back legs, making them look like zebras from the distance.

The tongue of the okapi is also long enough for the animal to wash its eyelids and clean its ears. Male okapis have short, skin-covered horns called ossicones. Okapis are around 2 metres long and between 1.5 and 2.0 metres high at the shoulders. Their weight ranges from 200 to 300 kilogrammes and they are diurnal.
