Queens is the easternmost of the five boroughs of New York, and the largest in area. Since 1899 it has been conterminous with Queens County. It boasts the most ethnically diverse urban area in the world, as 48% of its citizens are foreign-born.

It is located at the west end of Long Island, and its Long Island City is an economic centre boasting the tallest skyscraper in New York City outside Manhattan; the CitiCorp building.It also has a diverse selection of urban areas; from dense apartment blocks to detached houses in leafy suburbs.

Two of New York City's airports are located in Queens; JFK International Airport and LaGuardia Airport, which are among the busiest in the world.
