A design approach for microprocessors and microcontrollers, originally developed at IBM, which employs relatively simple instructions that usually execute in one cloc k cycle. This approach results in a faster, simpler processor design that uses fewer transistors. However, a programme written using RISC instructions requires more instructions to perform a task as compared to a programme written using CISC (Complex-Instruction-Set Computer) instructions.
