Silver spoon

A term that is often used to describe wealth, especially inherited wealth. For example, someone born into a wealthy family is said to have "been born with a silver spoon in his mouth".

During the 2012 U.S. presidential election campaigns, President Obama used the term no "silver spoon" to contrast himself from his Republican rival Mitt Romney and to show he was more in tune with the average workers in the country. Romney responded to the remark by saying "I'm certainly not going to apologise for my dad and his success in life... He was born poor. He worked his way to become very successful despite the fact that he didn't have a college degree, and one of the things he wanted to do was provide for me and for my brother and sisters."
