Stack-based buffer overflow

The more common type of buffer overflow in which the overflow occurs when a programme writes to memory addresses outside of the buffer, usually fixed in size. As a result, data adjacent to the stack is overwritten, and may be exploited to allow arbitrary code to be executed.
