Renewable energy

Renewable energy is energy which comes from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, and geothermal heat, which are renewable (naturally replenished). About 16% of global final energy consumption comes from renewables, with 10% coming from traditional biomass, which is mainly used for heating, and 3.4% from hydroelectricity. New renewables (small hydro, modern biomass, wind, solar, geothermal, and biofuels) accounted for another 3% and are growing very rapidly.

Thin film solar cell

Energy; Renewable energy

A thin-film solar cell (TFSC), also called a thin-film photovoltaic cell (TFPV), is a solar cell that is made by depositing one or more thin layers (thin film) of photovoltaic material on a ...

Feed-in tariffs (FIT)

Energy; Renewable energy

Tariff which obligates electric utilities to pay pre–established above-market rates for renewable power fed onto the grid, providing renewable generators with a set stream of income from their ...

Carbon nanotube

Energy; Renewable energy

Allotropes of carbon with a cylindrical nanostructure. Nanotubes have been constructed with length-to-diameter ratio of up to 132,000,000:1,[1] significantly larger than for any other material.

Power purchase agreement (PPA)

Energy; Renewable energy

Contracts between two parties, one who generates electricity for the purpose of sale (the seller) and one who is looking to purchase electricity (the buyer)
