The Kingdom of Bahrain is a small Middle Eastern country located in the Persian Gulf and is comprised of 33 islands, the largest of which is Bahrain Island, the location of the country's capital Manama. The population of Bahrain is around 1.2 million (2010), most of whom are ethnically Arab. The country was declared a kingdom in 2002, and is historically known for its abundance of oil and pearls.
