The main character of the Mega Man X franchise. He was created by Dr. Thomas Light as an upgraded version of the original Mega Man, with the main improvement being that it had full powers of rationality and decision making. As X wasn't programmed to be good per se, he was locked away for 30 years to run simulations on how he would respond in various situations, to ensure that he would not turn renegade and become a threat. Dr. Light died from age during this testing process, so some time during 21XX development was taken over by Dr. Cain. X was incredibly advanced, even 30 years later, which led to X and Cain creating copies of X called Reploids which also had free will. These Reploids did not undergo the same level of ethical testing, which led to some of them turning maverick. X, feeling responsible for this wave of terrorist robots, vows to fight against the maverick groups despite his personal beliefs of pacifism.
