Meselson-Radding model

A conceptualization of general genetic recombination during meiosis of newly replicated double-stranded DNA. An endonuclease nicks one strand of one daughter duplex; the new 5'-end dissociates and allows synthesis at the new 3'-end to permanently displace it. The free 5'-end displaces its homologue in the other daughter duplex, followed by excision of that displaced loop and ligation of the first 5'-end to the new 3'-end of the second duplex. Ligation of the remaining 3'- and 5'-ends and rotation to exchange the intact strands allows branch migration and separation, as in the Holliday model.
