Former grandmother and guardian, she has been accused with the murder of her 17 year-old grandson, Jonathan Hoffman. Layne, a resident of Bloomfield Township in Detroit, Michigan shot her grandson in the chest eight times. Layne's lawyer, Jerome Sabbota states that Hoffman and Layne had been sharing a condo together, but the relationship soured. Layne felt Hoffman was troubled and killed him, because she felt she had no choice. Layne has been charged with murder in the first degree.
