Sonya Blade is a video game character from the Mortal Kombat series. First appearing in the original Mortal Kombat game in 1992, Sonya was created for the sake of adding in a female character to the game, since the developers decided to add one in. In the games' canon she is an officer of the United States Special Forces and later a specialised U.S. government agency, while in the some other media she is a police officer.
