A novel written by American author Kathryn Stockett. The novel is about African American maids working in white Mississippi households in the 1960s. Written from the perspective of three characters and describes how their lives intertwine.

It was Stockett's debut novel. It took Stocket five years to write and was rejected by 45 literary agents. After it was published by Penguin Books, it became a bestseller on a number of lists, released in 35 countries and translated into three languages.
