Business transformation
An approach to changing an organization, popularised in the early 1990s by Michael Hammer and James Champy, that focuses on the organization's processes rather than its traditional functions. It makes extensive use of information technology to help companies rethink their business from scratch. This invariably requires some delayering and downsizing, perhaps as a consequence of trying to apply both top-down leadership and employee empowerment at the same time.
