frankenbiting
A technique used by reality TV shows where a spoken sentence is either taken deliberately out of context, or an entirely new sentence is constructed by stitching together fragments of other sentences a person has said. This enables the editors of the shows to weave their own narrative which may be more exciting than the genuine events that occurred.
The practice is widespread but controversial. Editors claim that it simply allows them to convey the mood of a scene in a much more succinct way than it actually happened, similar to paraphrasing, whereas detractors claim that frankenbiting is used to create completely new situations and it makes the moniker of "reality" TV disingenuous.
