Mental absorption. A state of strong concentration focused on a single object. One of the highest levels of awareness that can be reached by the practise of samadhi. There are four jhanas, which together essentially are enlightenment. This is where the monk attains supernormal powers, sees his past lives, and gains wisdom of the true character of reality.
