Sneezing monkey
A Burmese snub-nosed monkey (Rhinopithecus strykeri) is an endangered species of colobine monkey found in northern Burma (Myanmar). The species was a previously unknown type of monkey that sneezes when it rains due to the short upturned nasal flesh around its nostrils. To avoid inhaling water, sneezing monkeys usually sit with its head directed downwards, hiding its face between its knees during rainfall.
The International Institute for Species Exploration at Arizona State University included the sneezing monkey in its 2012 top 10 list of new species to bring attention to the biodiversity crisis and to promote a 250-year tradition of discovering and describing the millions of kinds of plants, animals and microbes with whom we share this planet.
