standing-eight count
When a boxer has been knocked down or is getting badly beat, the referee can stop the fight and count to eight or ten depending if this is amateur or professional boxing. While the referee is counting he examines the boxer to determine if the boxer can continue the fight. If a boxer takes three standing counts in one round or four in a match, the fight is stopped and the other fighter is declared the winner.
