Genetic engineering

The science of modifying and manipulating genes to create new artificial DNA or synthetic genes of different organisms. There are many purposes for genetic engineering, some of which include finding better treatment for diseases, or simply for discovering new organism of interest.

Contributors in Genetic engineering

Genetic engineering

Exogamy

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The fusion of reproductive cells from distantly related or unrelated organisms, i.e., outbreeding. cf endogamy.

Cell hybridization

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The fusion of two or more dissimilar cells leading to the formation of a somatic hybrid. cf cell fusion.

Sympatric speciation

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The formation of new species by populations that inhabit the same or overlapping geographic regions.

Endogamy

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The fusion of reproductive cells from closely related parents, i.e., inbreeding. cf exogamy.

Karyogamy

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The fusion of nuclei or nuclear material that occurs during sexual reproduction.

Nodulation

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The formation of nodules by symbiotic bacteria on the roots of plants.

Carrier gas

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The gas that carries the sample in gas chromatography.
