Company Profile:
Founded in 1946, the IEEE Computer Society is a professional organization for computing professionals. Based in Washington, DC, it's the largest of IEEE’s 38 societies organized under the IEEE Technical Activities Board. The IEEE Computer Society is dedicated to advancing the theory, practice, and ...
(1) A project management review that is conducted at the completion of each of the hardware/software development lifecycle phases (a milestone), such as requirements phase, preliminary design, detailed design phase, implementation phase, test phase, and sometimes installation and checkout phase. For example, a detailed design review (DDR) is held at the completion of the detailed design phase. (2) A formal review of the management and technical progress of a hardware/software development project.
Industry:Computer; Software
A work product to be delivered to the acquirer. Quantities, delivery dates, and delivery locations are specified in a project agreement. Project deliverables may include the following. operational requirements, functional specifications, design documentation, source code, object code, test results, installation instructions, training aids, users' manuals, product development tools, and maintenance documentation. Project deliverables may be self-contained or may be part of a larger system's deliverables.

(1) An individual who administers the project library. (2) The person responsible for establishing, controlling, and maintaining a software development library. (3) An individual who acts as an administrator, secretary, and librarian for many teams and who maintains and controls all elements of the software configuration, for example, documentation, source listings, and data catalogs, and indexes "reusable" software models. The librarian also assists the team in research, evaluation, and document preparation.
Industry:Computer; Software
(1) A representation of software created to facilitate analysis, planning, implementation, and decision-making. The software design description serves as a medium for communicating software design information and can be thought of as a blueprint or model of the system. (2) A representation of a software system created to facilitate analysis, planning, implementation, and decision-making. A blueprint or model of the software system. The SDD serves as the primary medium for communicating software design information.
Industry:Computer; Software
A means to deal with inherent uncertainty in software projects by delaying the final decision. The project is broken into an early phase that focuses on gathering requirements, addressing major risks, and project planning, and a later phase that completes the project if the first phase’s outcome is favorable. The final decision on whether to do the full project is deferred from the point when the uncertainties are the greatest (the beginning) to a point where the uncertainties are significantly reduced (the end of the first phase).

In software system engineering, a joint acquirer-supplier review conducted to finalize software configuration item (SCI) requirements so that the software developer can initiate the next step in the software development process. The SSR is conducted when SCI requirements have been sufficiently defined to evaluate the developer's responsiveness to and interpretation of the system/segment level technical requirements. A successful SSR is predicated on the developer's determination that the software requirements specification and interface specifications form a satisfactory basis for proceeding into the preliminary design phase.
Industry:Computer; Software
An individual or group of individuals who are not part of the development unit. Joint acquirer-supplier reviews are frequently chaired and conducted by the customer/acquirer organization, and are usually presented by the software developer. Joint acquirer-supplier reviews consist of a document review process and a final meeting (review). Review material is presented by the supplier to the reviewers (normal the acquirer) 10-20 days prior to the review meeting. The review is not closed out until all action items are resolved (perhaps 30 days after the review meeting).
Industry:Computer; Software
A review process for evaluating the status and products of an activity of a project as appropriate. It is frequently a mechanism for determining project status at the completion of a major software development milestone. The reviews are normally conducted jointly between acquirer of the system that represent the user, and the supplier that represents the software developer. Joint acquirer-developer reviews are usually thought of as visibility and status mechanisms; however, the gate-keeping and action item aspects of joint acquirer-developer reviews are also powerful control mechanisms.
Industry:Computer; Software
A well-defined work to be accomplished in completing a function, activity, or task. Most work packages are relatively small in nature and can be accomplished by 2-4 individuals in 2-4 weeks. A work package should have a unique name and identifier, preconditions for initiating the work, staffing requirements, other needed resources, work products to be generated estimated duration, risks factors, predecessor and successor work tasks, any special considerations for the work and the completion criteria for the work package - including quality criteria for the work products to be generated.
Industry:Computer; Software
(1) The science and discipline concerned with analyzing and documenting software requirements. It involves transforming system requirements into a description of software requirements, performance parameters, and a software configuration using an iterative process of definition, analysis, tradeoff studies, and prototyping. (2) Software requirements engineering is comprised of software requirements elicitation, software requirements analysis, software requirements specification, software requirements verification, and software requirements management. Sometimes synonymous with software requirements analysis.
