Hemiketal

The product of reversible condensation of a ketone and an alcohol in which the alcoholic hydroxy group adds across the carbonyl group of the ketone, e.g. fructose acting as both a ketone and an alcohol to give the internally condensed fructofuranose; also the bond formed by this condensation. A ketal is the product formed by abstraction of the hydroxy group of a hemiketal and the hydrogen of a second alcohol, e.g. a fructofuranoside.
