In meteorology, a general term usually referring to the water vapour content of the atmosphere, or to the total water substance (gaseous, liquid, and solid) present in a given volume of air. In climatology, moisture refers more specifically to quantities of precipitation or to precipitation effectiveness. See humidity; see also soil moisture.
