Coastal engineering

A branch of civil engineering that applies engineering principles specifically to projects within the coastal zone including areas nearshore, estuary, marine, and shoreline.

Contributors in Coastal engineering

Coastal engineering

Aquifer

Engineering; Coastal engineering

A geologic formation that is water-bearing, and which transmits water from one point in the formation to another.

Dam

Engineering; Coastal engineering

Structure built in rivers or estuaries, basically to separate water at both sides and/or to retain water at one side.

Beneficial use of dredged material

Engineering; Coastal engineering

Placement or use of dredged material for some productive purpose. Examples: beach fill or nearshore berm construction.

Porosity

Engineering; Coastal engineering

Percentage of the total volume of a soil sample not occupied by solid particles but by air and water, η = Vv/VT × 100.

Raised beach

Engineering; Coastal engineering

A wave-cut platform, with or without a covering of beach materials, which is now raised above the present sea- level.

Harbour

Engineering; Coastal engineering

Any protected water area affording a place of safety for vessels. See also port. A harbour may be natural or man-made.

Tectonic forces

Engineering; Coastal engineering

Forces generated from within the earth that result in uplift, movement, or deformation of part of the earth's crust.
