Control systems

Of or relating to systems used in the closed area of a spacecraft to permit life to be sustained, so that occupants are provided with a suitably controlled atmosphere in which to live and work.

Contributors in Control systems

Control systems

Axial-flow compressor

Aerospace; Control systems

One in which the air is compressed parallel to the axis of the engine. It is made up of a series of alternating rotor and stator vane stages.

Boss

Aerospace; Control systems

Raised rim around a hole; e.g. axle hole in a wheel. Circular projection on a casting, usually serving as the seat for a bolt head or nut.

Atmospheric pressure

Aerospace; Control systems

Barometric pressure exerted by the atmosphere as a result of gravitational attraction above the point in question.

Atomizer

Aerospace; Control systems

Nozzle that creates minute particles and accurately shaped spray of fuel suitable for rapid mixing and combustion.

Bending

Aerospace; Control systems

Combination of tension and compression. The inside curve is under compression; the outside is under tension.

Bleed system

Aerospace; Control systems

Device that unloads small amounts of air to relieve pressure.

Primary air

Aerospace; Control systems

Air that mixes with fuel in the combustion chamber to form a combustible mixture. The ratio is 15 parts of air to 1 part of fuel.
