Naval gunfire support (NGFS)

Fire provided by Navy surface gun systems in support of a unit or units tasked with achieving the commander's objectives. A subset of naval surface fire support.
Naval surface fire support (NSFS)

Fire provided by Navy surface gun and missile systems in support of a unit or units.
Counterfire

Fire intended to destroy or neutralise enemy weapons. Includes counterbattery and countermortar fire.
