Detrital material which is transported by a river and deposited - usually temporarily - at points along the floodplain of a river. Commonly composed of sands and gravels.

The distance between a site and open ocean water. Continental interiors (obviously!) and areas surrounded by nearly permanent, continuous sea ice are highly continental.
Block disintegration

This is to do with mechanical / physical weathering breaking down rock along its weak points (such as joints or bedding planes). An example would be 'frost shattering*.
Base level

Of a stream is the point below which the stream cannot cut. A temporary base level along a stream, such as a lake may be removed by stream action . Ultimate base level is the ocean.
