Cripple rafter

Rafter that runs from a hip rafter to a valley rafter. A cripple rafter never reaches the wall top plate or the ridge board.

Lightweight wood or metal strips that even up a wall or ceiling for panelling or drywall. On masontry, furring provides a surface on which to nail.
