Foetal fibronectin (FFN)

A protein that, if found in cervical-vaginal secretions, can indicate that labour is imminent. The FFN test is usually reserved for women at risk of preterm labor.

Saddle block

A regional nerve block anaesthetic that is injected into the fluid surrounding the spinal cord and used to block the pain associated with a forceps or vacuum extraction delivery.
