A portion of a larger diaphragm used to distribute loads between members.
Stud

Wood member used as vertical framing member in interior or exterior walls of a building, usually 2" x 4" or 2" x 6" sizes, and precision end-trimmed.
Structural system

Transverse wall

A wall that is oriented transverse to the in-plane shear walls, and resists lateral forces applied normal to its plane. Also known as an out-of-plane wall.
