Respirable dust

Biology; Toxicology

Mass fraction of dust (particles) that penetrates to the unciliated airways of the lung (the alveolar region). Note: This fraction is represented by a cumulative log-normal curve having a median ...

Ribonucleic acid (RNA)

Biology; Toxicology

Linear, usually single stranded, polymer of ribonucleotides, each containing the sugar ribose in association with a phosphate group and one of 4 nitrogenous bases: adenine, guanine, cytosine, or ...

Respirable particles

Biology; Toxicology

Physical map (in genetics)

Biology; Toxicology

Map showing how much DNA, measured in base pairs, separates two genes. Note: Not to be confused with a genetic map which shows the position of genes in relation to each other, based on the frequency ...

Physiologically based pharmacokinetic modelling (PBPK)

Biology; Toxicology

Mathematical modelling of kinetic behaviour of a substance, based on measured physiological parameters.

Sarcoma

Biology; Toxicology

Malignant tumour arising in a connective tissue and composed primarily of anaplastic cells resembling supportive tissue (see anaplasia).

Toxic substance

Biology; Toxicology
