It is now a category 1 storm currently hitting the northern Gulf Coast of the United States, including the western Florida Panhandle, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Hurricane warnings were posted from Intracoastal City, Louisiana, to the Mississippi-Alabama border.

Isaac developed from a tropical wave located east of the Lesser Antilles on August 21. It passed over Hispaniola and Cuba, killing at least 24 people, as it entered the Gulf of Mexico.
