Herpetology is the branch of biology concerned with the study of amphibians and reptiles. Amphibians include such animals as frogs, toads, salamanders, newts, caecilians and gymnophiona, whereas reptiles include snakes, lizards, amphisbaenids, turtles, terrapins, tortoises, crocodilians, and the tuataras.
