Nib width

The width of any broad-edged tool. A letter written at 4 nib widths high will appear twice as heavy as one written at 8 nib widths high with the same pen.
Counter space

The fully or partially enclosed interior space of a character. The enclosure may be made by curved strokes and/or stems. Some characters, such as A and M, have more than one counter.
Interletter space

The white space between two or more adjacent characters. Also sometimes known as letterspacing.
Waist line

The guideline showing the correct position for the upper boundary of the x-height.
Pen angle

The angle at which the nib meets the paper, relative to the base line.
Serif
