Founded by Alexander the Great in 332 b.c., Alexandria is the second largest city in Egypt, and currently serves as the country's primary seaport. Measuring 32 km along the coast, Alexandria is also considered the largest Mediterranean city, and continues to be considered an important centre for international trade.
