Alzheimer syndrome
A progressive, irreversible disease characterised by degeneration of brain cells that commonly result in severe loss of memory, the ability to think, and pay attention. There are also usually major changes in personality. Alzheimer syndrome most often occurs in late middle and old age. Genetic factors probably play a role since this syndrome is more common in some families.
