Andy Rooney
The three-time Emmy award winner and a regular presence on the U.S. television's most popular newsmagazine-the CBS TV 60 Minutes, Andy Rooney has delivered over 1,000 short essays in his "A Few Minutes with Andy Rooney" to wrap up the Sunday night programme each week since 1978. His essays often look at the absurdities of life and language in general.
Prior to his role at 60 Minutes, Rooney worked for the military newspaper Stars and Stripes and wrote four books about World War II. He also wrote for entertainment personalities Arthur Godfrey and Garry Moore and had a longtime partnership with newsman Harry Reasoner.
At age 92, Rooney delivered his last essay on October 2, 2011. He died on November 5, 2011.
