Located at the northernmost tip of Central America, Belize is a former British colony bordered by Guatemala to the south and west, Mexico to the north, and by the Caribbean Sea to the east. The population of Belize is 333,200 (2010), with an annual growth rate of 2.21%, one of the highest in the western hemisphere. Unlike surrounding countries, Belize's official language is English, and its capital is Belmopan City, which is located 80 km inland from the former capital Belize City.
