Located at the eastern part of the Himalayas, Bhutan is a South Asian landlocked kingdom bordered by India to the east, south and west, and by China to the north. Bhutan's population is approximately 708,500 (2010), and it's capital is the city of Thimphu, which is also the country's largest city. The kingdom held its first elections in March 2008 after transferring from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional monarchy under the leadership of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck.
