Boryeong Mud Festival
An annual festival that takes place during the summer in Boryeong, South Korea. The festival takes place over two weeks but is most famous for its final weekend which usually falls on the second weekend of July.
The Boryeong Mud Festival was started in 1998 to promote a range of cosmetics that used mud from the Boryeong mud flats. The mud used in the cosmetics and in the festival is considered rich in minerals. A small market is set up in the festival grounds to sell these cosmetics and to offer beauty treatments that use the Boryeong mud.
For the festival, several large attractions are set up in the seafront area. These include a mud pool, mud slides, mud skiing competitions, and a large stage for live music and other forms of entertainment. The festival is closed with a fireworks.
