A city in Castille-La Mancha, Spain. Ciudad Real is the capital of the province with the same name. It is located 115 miles south of Madrid.
Ciudad Real became the capital of La Mancha province in 1691. Historically, the city was protected by walls and towers; today, only two parts of the walls remain.
In 2009, the total population was approximately 74,014 inhabitants. The city is home to eighteen primary schools and six high schools. A stop on the AVE rail line has turned the area into a long-distance commuter suburb of Madrid.
Attractions in Ciudad Real include Don Quixote's Museum, Museo Elisa Cendreros and Iglesia de Santiago. There are also plans to develop a Caesar's Palace Casino in Ciudad Real.
