Coincidence Method of Determining Period

The intervals of time between coincidence (in the same direction) of the position of a freely swinging pendulum and a clock pendulum are measured, usually at the point of lowest descent. The period of the freely swinging pendulum is then m Pc/n, where m Pc is the length of the interval (2mPc if coincidences in the opposite direction are measured also) and n is the number of swings of the freely swinging pendulum.
