Comet Hartley 2 was discovered in 1986 by Malcolm Hartley, an Australian astronomer. Comet Hartly 2's circuit around the sun takes about 6.46 years
Also known as Comet 103P, the comet was close enough to the Earth on October 20, 2010 to be seen with the naked eye under certain conditions.
