In 2011, there were approximately 94,203 people who lived in Cáceres. The University of Extremadura has a campus in Cáceres, which accounts for the city's student population.

In 1986, Cáceres was declared a World Heritage City by UNESCO. There are several historic buildings, landmarks and festivals that make the area a popular tourist destination. Attractions include Torre del Bujaco, Palacio de los Golfines de Arribe, Museum of Cáceres, Las Barruecos and La Fiesta de los Mártires.
