The capital of Cáceres province in the autonomous community of Extremadura, Spain. Cáceres is located in western central Spain.

The history of Cáceres dates back to prehistoric times. The first evidence of humans living in the area is from 25,000 BC. The city witnessed the Roman occupation, Moorish occupation and the Golden age of Jewish culture in Spain. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the city was occupied by the Visigoths until the Arabas conquered the city in the 8th century. Cáceres was conquered by the Christians in the 13th century. The city flourished during the Reconquista and the Discover of America.

In 2011, there were approximately 94,203 people who lived in Cáceres. The University of Extremadura has a campus in Cáceres, which accounts for the city's student population.

In 1986, Cáceres was declared a World Heritage City by UNESCO. There are several historic buildings, landmarks and festivals that make the area a popular tourist destination.
