Dorians

One of the tribes of Greeks whose foundation myths told of their arrival in the Peloponnese after the fall of Troy. Some archaeologists and historians have dated this to about 1100 BC, but others point to a later foundation (c.900 BC) of the main Dorian city, Sparta. By the 5th century BC the Dorians were deadly rivals of the Ionians, whose mother city was Athens.
