Florida, nicknamed "The Sunshine State," is a state in the southeastern part of the United States and located on the nation's Atlantic and Gulf coasts. It shares borders with Gulf of Mexico on the west; Alabama and Georgia on the north; and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. The state capital is Tallahassee, its largest city is Jacksonville. Other major cities are Miami, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Hialeah, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Pembroke Pines, and Hollywood. Florida entered the Union on March 3, 1845 and is the 27th state.
