Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster is a giant monster film from Toho, and is the fifth film in the long running Godzilla franchise. It features the first appearance Ghidorah, who repeatedly returns as Godzilla's rival, and Rodan who usually plays the role of an ally.

In the film, Ghidorah transports itself from Venus to Earth via an egg and begins causing havoc. Godzilla and Rodan cross paths incidentally and begin fighting, as giant monsters are wont to do. In an effort to stop mass destruction, the last remaining spawn of Mothra (who from now on is the de facto Mothra) tries to stop Godzilla and Rodan fighting and have the three of them concentrate their efforts on stopping Ghidorah's destruction. The monsters then begin a 4-way battle.

In the US version of the film, Ghidorah is stated to travel from Mars rather than Venus, possibly as there was a suspicion of intelligent life on Mars in the west. The film was successful commercially, selling over 4 million tickets at the box office.
