Holodomor

Man-made famine in Ukraine that lasted from 1932 to 1933 and killed up to eight million people. It was a result of economic policies and ethnic cleansing imposed by the Stalinist regime in the Soviet Union. Whether the famine was deliberately caused or not remains in dispute. The word means "hunger plague" in Ukrainian.
